Tirzepatide 20 mgGIP / GLP-1 dual agonist

Tirzepatide 20 mg is a 39-amino-acid peptide that mimics two gut hormones that signal fullness, GIP and GLP-1. It is the active ingredient of Mounjaro (type 2 diabetes) and Zepbound (weight management), Eli Lilly medicines approved in the US and Europe; Mounjaro is also approved in Canada. A fatty-acid chain gives it a long duration of action, which allows one injection a week in studies.

What the research says

The SURPASS (diabetes) and SURMOUNT (obesity) programs enrolled tens of thousands of participants. In SURMOUNT-1 (New England Journal of Medicine, 2022), average weight loss reached 20.9% at the highest dose after 72 weeks. The most common side effects are digestive: nausea, diarrhea, constipation and vomiting, mostly at the start and when the dose goes up.

Preparation and storage

The product ships as a lyophilized powder, to be reconstituted with bacteriostatic water. Keep the powder in the freezer or the fridge, away from light. Once reconstituted, keep the vial at 2 to 8 °C and use it within about 4 weeks.
